Objectives: Advise Nestle Oil (major Finnish biodiesel producer) on the sustainability challenges and opportunities of the pangasius sector as to allow them to take an informed decision on whether to use pangasius oil as a raw material for biodiesel.

Climate Change, Fisheries and Aquaculture Project Concept Development

Objectives: Develop a project proposal to increase resilience and reducing vulnerability to climate change of fisheries and aquaculture

Training needs assessment in fishery co-management in ThuaThien Hue and Quang Nam provinces

Objectives: To provide the Regional Fisheries Livelihoods Program (RFLP) with a comprehensive understanding of the training needs related to fishery co-management of the two main target groups (fishers in the coastal communes and the government officials at commune, district, and provincial levels) in Quang Nam and Thua Thien Hue provinces.

Establishing the International Centre for Aquaculture & Fisheries Sustainability (ICAFIS)

Supported by: Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS)

Timing: 2010

Objectives: Responding to the needs of VINAFIS and the Vietnamese fisheries sector, establish the organizational, administrative and technical structure of ICAFIS, a Centre to promote aquaculture and fisheries sustainability within Vietnam and to share experiences internationally, focusing primarily on developing countries in Asia-Pacific, Africa and Latin America. Integrating regional priorities and smallholders into global aquaculture standards development and adoption: develop pilot systems to work with small-scale shrimp producers in Vietnam

Objectives: Operating within the framework of the Shrimp Aquaculture Dialogue (ShAD) coordinate the development and implementation of activities aimed at promoting the establishment of shrimp farmer groups, improving the sustainability of shrimp farming in southern Viet Nam and increasing small-scale farmers' advocacy in the ShAD process.
